Jim Shockey

Please join us in welcoming Jim Shockey to Houston Safari Club, as he guides us through the Best of Jim Shockey’s Worldwide Adventures, including rare behind the scenes footage of Jim and his team.

Jim has been an award winning outdoor writer, wildlife photographer"videographer, wilderness guide and outfitter for the last two decades. He has exclusive guiding territories on world-renowned Vancouver Island, British Columbia, in the wilds of the Yukon Territory, in the Sonoran Desert of Old Mexico and also in the heart of big whitetail buck country in Saskatchewan. Jim’s personal hunting experiences include travel to the remotest, wildest and most beautiful reaches of North America and beyond.

During the course of his adventures, he has taken numerous muzzleloading world records, including, Stone’s sheep, bison, Roosevelt elk, Shiruse moose, muskox, walrus, white-bearded wildebeest, Grant’s gazelle, steenbok, and many more. He is the first and only hunter in the world to complete the “North American Super Slam” and “Ultimate Slam” using only a muzzleloader. Jim has published more than 1,000 adventure articles for virtually all the largest outdoor magazines, produces videos and hosts his own adventure television show on the Outdoor Channel.

“Legacy” to Snare Global Hunters

Houston Safari Club hosts annual expo in January

Outdoor enthusiasts from around the world will march to a common beat as the Houston Safari Club hosts its annual Worldwide Hunting Expo, titled "Legacy," January 17-19, 2008 at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel and Convention Center. The event will feature more than 200 outfitters, guide services and outdoor activity vendors from around the world. In addition to its numerous exhibits, the expo will feature live auctions, a silent auction, door prizes, exquisite food and live musical entertainment. Anyone interested in networking with internationally renowned experts and other outdoor enthusiasts can attend. Tickets are available for $10 a piece for daily admission.

The exhibition will open to the public on Thursday, January 17^th at 2 p.m. Following the close of the exhibit hall, Orvis will host a convention kick-off party with hors d’oeuvres and cocktails.

Our show continues Friday, followed by our Friday evening banquet. That night, friends from around the world will rejoin for a banquet featuring live and silent auction items and a country and western band.

An awards presentation and formal dinner will follow the Saturday exhibition, along with a live auction.

Mac Haik Ford, Capital Farm Credit and S&B Engineers and Constructors, LTD. are proud sponsors of this year’s convention. The Houston Safari Club is currently accepting corporate sponsorships, which provide funding for:

College scholarships for students majoring in wildlife management, range science and conservation.
Cooperative projects with Ducks Unlimited, The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundations, The Nature Conservancy, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, and Teachers Outdoor Leadership School.
Other organizations such as Operation Orphans, the Boy Scouts of America and many Texas 4-H clubs.

“The Houston Safari Club”, which was founded in 1972, is a non-profit volunteer organization that has raised more than $2 million during the past 30 years to contribute to wildlife conservation, sport hunting, and hunter rights. In partnership with its sister organization, the American Conservation and Education Society, many worthy national and international causes, and many Texas projects have benefited from HSC grants and scholarships given to over 60 students from 7 colleges here in Texas.

Every year the Houston Safari Club, in conjunction with the American Conservation & Education Society (ACES), proudly awards scholarships to students currently involved in the study of Wildlife Management and/or Range Management. In 1999, the first year of this program, we were happy to award five scholarships. From 1999 through 2007 a total of one hundred and fifty six scholarships have been awarded to well-deserving students totaling over $448,000!
