Joe Betar – Executive Director
Joe is an operations, marketing and sales executive with an extensive background in the outdoor industry. From 2006 to 2012, he served as Vice President/COO and later as President, of Texas Trophy Hunters Association. Prior to that, Joe was with Kinetic Concepts, Inc. for 10 years, where he helped lead the clinical programs, strategic development, sales planning and marketing departments for the global medical technology company.
Most recently, he served as a management and marketing strategist for businesses within the hunting, shooting, fishing and outdoor television space. Joe has been affiliated as a member, liaison, committee member or board member for Texas Outdoor Writers Association, Professional Outdoor Media Association, Southeastern Outdoor Press Association, Safari Club International, National Shooting Sports Foundation, National Rifle Association, Texas Outdoor Partners and Something More Safaris. Joe and his wife Charlotte relocated to Houston from San Antonio. They have 3 sons — Joshua, Zachary and Christopher.
In his role as Executive Director, Joe provides leadership and management of all operational units, member relations, programs and external relationships for Houston Safari Club. In addition, Joe serves as Executive Director of HSC’s charitable arm, the American Conservation and Education Society (ACES).

Elizabeth Fersen – Marketing & Events Manager
Elizabeth graduated from the University of Georgia in 2010, with a BFA in Studio Art. While at UGA she served as the captain for the women’s lacrosse team, and interned with the Cape Cod Baseball League, gaining valuable fundraising and marketing experience.
Most recently, Elizabeth was employed by The Orvis Company as a Creative Services Project Manager, where she managed catalog production, and was a leader in workflow design and digital asset management systems. Prior to this position, Elizabeth also served in print production, luxury hotel management, and event design roles while living in Vermont.
Elizabeth moved to Houston in spring 2015, and is excited to combine her previous experience and appreciation for the outdoor lifestyle here at the Houston Safari Club. Elizabeth will be responsible for HSC’s marketing and PR efforts. In addition, she will serve as the primary contact for HSC’s publications, merchandise and events management.

Andrew Henley – Membership Coordinator
Andrew is a proud Houstonian and an even prouder Texan. He attended Texas State University and graduated in 2013 with a degree in Public Administration. While in San Marcos, Andrew gained valuable experience in leadership, organizational development, fundraising and marketing through a year-long fellowship with the Stelos Alliance.
Following graduation in August 2013, Andrew began his career as the Marketing Coordinator for Commercial Wireless Solutions, a Motorola Solutions Channel Partner located in Houston, Texas. During his time at CWS, he gained crucial experience with database management and development of marketing campaigns. Andrew is also the co-founder of the Distinguished Young Bobcat Award – a scholarship offered to incoming freshman at Texas State University.
Andrew joined the HSC team in June 2015, where he serves as the organizations Membership Coordinator. He is responsible for member relations, assisting with monthly meetings and events, and coordinating membership initiatives. He is excited to bring his passion for the outdoors and his experience with nonprofits together in his role with the Houston Safari Club. Jessica Welch – Office Manager
Originally from Colorado, Jessica moved to Texas in middle school. She attended Texas A&M University and graduated in 2008 with a degree in English. During her time in College Station she gained valuable experience in journalism as a writer for the campus newspaper, The Battalion.
After graduation, she worked for a website company in College Station where she designed, hosted, and maintained websites for car dealerships around the country. She moved to Houston in 2009 and for four years helped manage a medical office. When she was offered the chance to work for the Houston Safari Club, she jumped at the opportunity.
Employed by HSC since December 2012, Jessica helps with many different facets of the organization – handling grants requests, serving as the Exhibits Coordinator, and managing all financial aspects of the club, just to name a few.
