This morning I witnessed two mature whitetail bucks locked in a fierce territorial battle, their magnificent antlers clattering like ancient broadswords as they recklessly tumbled across an open meadow. Suddenly, I saw the unmistakable flash of massive antlers as a third buck aggressively emerged from the thick cedar and burst through the roiling dust. My heart leapt into my throat as I raised my rifle, braced against the gnarled mesquite, and flipped the safety. I watched through the scope as the fourteen-point trophy buck drove the smaller bucks away and stood his ground, his mighty chest heaving as he violently stamped the earth. The crosshairs were directly over the kill zone as I exhaled and slowly squeezed the trigger...
